International Women’s Day - 2025
On March 8, 2025, Calgary Immigrants for Immigrants Association (CIIA), in partnership with the UTurn Project and First Step Together Society, proudly celebrated International Women's Day. The event, which gathered hundreds of women and their supporters, was a powerful demonstration of solidarity, empowerment, and resilience within the community.
The celebration was filled with inspiring speeches, performances, and meaningful conversations about the progress women have made and the ongoing challenges they face. The highlight of the event was the special appearance of Mayor Jyoti Gondek, who graced the occasion as one of the distinguished guests. Her support and presence added immense value, reinforcing the importance of women’s empowerment and the critical role they play in shaping a better future for all.
Throughout the day, participants shared their stories, celebrated their achievements, and discussed the importance of gender equality, social justice, and opportunities for women from all walks of life. The event also served as a platform for raising awareness of issues specific to immigrant and racialized women, underscoring the work that still needs to be done in creating an inclusive and equitable society.
CIIA, the UTurn Project, and First Step Together Society are committed to continuing to provide support, education, and advocacy for women in the community, ensuring that they have the tools and resources to thrive in their personal, professional, and social lives. This celebration of International Women's Day was a powerful reminder of the strength and determination of women everywhere and the ongoing collective efforts needed to empower and uplift women across Calgary.
